Modernizing Vevo's TV platform

The making of a fit-for-purpose modern platform to deliver a smooth user experience

Challenge

Vevo's television platform showed signs of age with an expansive, difficult-to-modify codebase that also needed to extend web application features to their TV portfolio. Econify's team was set the challenge of modernizing the application, working in sync with Vevo to successfully deliver a strategically important project within tight timelines.

Goals

There were 3 key goals required for this project:

Modernize the TV application.

Create an adaptable platform architecture.

Support multiple television platforms.

Econify architected a modular application design that was adaptable to future business and tech requirements.

Solution

We consulted on the fundamental decision to switch from Angular to React and Redux. Our design of the application's data model as well as the general navigation structure were designed to facilitate navigation of a web app using a television remote. Throughout, we collaborated closely with the Vevo team to overcome the multiple design and user experience challenges of building an application that runs on a broad range of TV platforms.

The project delivered a vastly improved user experience, using modern, fit-for-purpose technology, that reduced maintenance costs while at the same time enabling expanding platform reach. Fundamental to Vevo's strategic goals.
