Junior Software Engineer
Job Description
New AI models and coding tools ship every few weeks, and our engineers put them on real projects as soon as they land. What we learn shapes how our team works and what we recommend to the companies we partner with.
This role starts on our AI Development Experience projects. You'll work next to engineers who have shipped production software for years. They'll hand you hard problems and help you through them.
What the work looks like
To begin with, you'll build and improve the tools and workflows our engineers use to ship with AI. That could be an internal agent, coding guidelines that people actually follow, or a way to tell when a new model makes our output worse. The stack is mostly TypeScript and Node.js, with React on the front end.
Over time you'll also work with clients, so we're hiring someone who's comfortable in a meeting and can explain their work clearly to engineers and non-engineers alike.
AI coding tools are part of the job, and you'll use them every day. You own every line you ship, including the ones you didn't type.
What we're looking for
- You build things without being asked. A side project, or a script that fixed something annoying at your last job. We'll ask you about them.
- You get unstuck. When something is unclear, you ask, or you make a reasonable call and write down what you assumed. You raise blockers the same day.
- You use AI tools with judgment. You've worked with Claude Code, Cursor or Copilot and you've seen them get things wrong. You read the difference before you commit it.
- You think about the next person in the codebase. You reuse what's already there and flag anything that looks insecure, even when it's outside your ticket.
- You're comfortable with change. AI tooling moves fast, and a project you start may change direction within a week. Some people find that energizing. If you'd rather work to a predictable roadmap, this probably isn't the right fit.
- You can come from anywhere. A CS degree, a bootcamp, internships or teaching yourself all work. In the interview we look at what you've built and how you reason through a problem.
How we interview
There are two conversations and no algorithm puzzles.
A 30-minute video call. You tell us about yourself. We tell you about Econify and what consulting actually involves.
One interview, about an hour and forty-five minutes, with two of our engineers. Start by walking us through a project you've built, so bring one you can share your screen on. Next comes a system design discussion, then agentic programming on a small codebase we send you the day before, using the tools you already work with. The last part is a conversation about how we work and what you want next.
About Econify
Econify has designed and built mobile, smart TV and web apps for clients since 2001, most of them in media, including apps representing billions of streams and millions of viewers. The engineers who do well here are curious and keep moving without being told what's next.
