Junior AI Engineer

Econify is a NYC-based consulting and development firm composed of smart, motivated engineers. We partner with enterprise media and fintech clients to design, build, and scale complex systems. Our teams embed directly with product organizations to solve high-impact technical problems that reach millions of users.

We’re looking for a Junior AI Engineer to join one of our enterprise client engagements, working alongside some of the country’s most talented engineers on projects involving AI-powered applications, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems, real-time data flows, and scalable architectures. You’ll help build and maintain production systems while shaping best practices around LLM integration, evaluation, and deployment.

This role is a strong fit if you have some hands-on experience with LLMs or ML systems, whether from a job or a serious side project, and you're ready to build production software under real client constraints. It's full-time on-site in NYC.

Skills & Requirements

• 1-2 years of professional software / AI engineering experience (Python and/or TypeScript preferred).
• Experience building backend services and REST APIs (Node.js, FastAPI, or similar)
• Experience integrating LLM APIs (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic, or similar), through work, coursework, or personal projects.
• Comfort with Git and standard software engineering practices.
• Strong communication skills. You'll be in client meetings early, and being able to explain a technical tradeoff clearly matters as much as writing the code behind it.
• Curiosity about how LLM systems fail in practice, not just how they work in a demo.

Bonus / Preferred Experience

It’s a plus if you’ve worked with or are interested in:

• RAG pipelines: chunking strategies, embeddings, retrieval evaluation.
• Vector databases (Pinecone, Weaviate, FAISS, pgvector).
• Cloud infrastructure (GCP preferred: Cloud Run, GCS, CloudSQL, Vertex AI or equivalent AWS experience).
• CI/CD practices (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar).
• Prior consulting experience or direct client interaction.
